What Operational Considerations are There?
- During design, it is important to note that thrust is not constant—it decreases with increasing bellows height. This is because the effective area of the bellows itself changes with stroke. Manufacturers provide charts showing the force generated for changes in height or stroke at various operating pressures.
- Of course, the bellows must not be inflated prior to installation, and the end stops must be designed to prevent operation beyond the recommended minimum and maximum heights. If disassembly is necessary, the bellows must be completely deflated before beginning disassembly.
- Although the bellows material is robust and durable under normal use, it should not be exposed to continuous contact with hydraulic fluids, lubricants, solvents, metal shavings, and welding sparks.
